An Eternal Focus
Hello brothers and sisters!
I don’t know about you, but all of the slush, puddles, and messiness outside is leaving me feeling pretty glum. And with such gloomy weather, it is easy to lose your sense of joy and thankfulness. But then I realize how short-sighted my thinking is! As Paul reminds the Thessalonians, we cannot predict Christ’s second coming, and consequently, we should be living with an eternal focus. In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul says that we are to acknowledge those who encourage us, live in peace, warn idle believers, encourage the disheartened, help others, and be patient. Then, he reminds us that as individuals, we are to:
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Has your heart been filled with praises to God today or have you filled it with feelings of frustrations and anger? How is your prayer life on a daily basis? Have you been giving thanks even in the toughest of circumstances? I pray that we would not fall into the trap of short-sightedness, but instead, take on an eternal focus and always rejoice, pray, and give thanks.
